Art Department ventures

Recently I've been working in art department, and it's been really fun to experience a new part of filmmaking.

I was a set dresser on "Already Gone," a short film directed by Ross Ching, starring Shawn Ashmore from X-Men and Harry Shum from Glee. Wired.com has an article on it! I learned a lot from the production designer and set decorator, and it was the first time I've been on a set where they had a special effects team!

I was brought on to help in art department for a music video for Tinashe called "This Feeling." We basically just used heat lamps and foam insulation panels from Home Depot to build makeshift light banks, but the result actually looked pretty good!

I'm so glad I was able to work on some great sets with very talented people.

Legend of Zelda

I recently played Ocarina of Time again on N64...it was super nostalgic.
Since I'm trying to get better with Photoshop, I decided to do some paintings of Legend of Zelda characters!

I got Skyward Sword but haven't had a chance to play it yet! Soon though!

admit one

I made my first first animatic!

"Admit One"
video
Music: "Mood Indigo" by Duke Ellington.

Basically it's about an orphan in the 1930s or so who finds out there is a one night screening of a circus performance from a couple decades prior. He tries to get in, but it's a sold out private event for members of the actual circus. An old man sees what's going on and talks to the boy. The man realizes that the boy is the son of the circus trapeze artists and lets him into the theater. We see the old man on screen in his younger days (as the ringmaster), and the boy sees his parents perform for the first time.

So...I never thought I would ever use editing software! (After Effects) But I'm glad I tried it and now I want to make more animatics!

Brazil

For those who haven't seen the 1985 film Brazil, there are some spoilers ahead!
So I read the script for Brazil (having never seen the film before) and drew out these storyboards from the torture scene.

This is one of the scenes toward the end of the movie, where Sam is caught and brought to the torture room.
It was interesting to watch the movie after reading the script (the version I read was not the final draft, by the way...) and seeing the differences!

aesop's fable

"The Hare and the Hound," an Aesop fable, adapted for a city alley.
